FDA allows qualified green tea health claims for breast cancer and prostate cancer July 1, 2005 – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notified Sin Hang Lee, M.D. on June 30, 2005 that it would "consider exercising enforcement discretion" on the qualified health claim of drinking green tea to reduce the risk of breast cancer and prostate cancer. Based on the FDA decision, Dr. Lee's TeaForHealth™ is introducing two cancer-fighting green tea products to the consumers as health beverages, to debut on October 7, 2005, at the International Complementary & Natural Healthcare Conference and Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The scientific data submitted under FDA Docket No. 2004Q-0083 proposed a claim that would read: “Daily consumption of 40 ounces of typical green tea containing 710 μg/ml natural (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) may reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer. There is scientific evidence supporting this health claim although the evidence is not conclusive.” Dr. Lee’s TeaForHealth™ is constructing a qualified health claim according to the FDA’s decision to be used as a food label for consumer awareness. Dr. Lee’s TeaForHealth™ has issued a press release to address the June 30, 2005 results of the FDA review. # # # |
